Fast Love Fizzles.

Should love at its best be a psychological communion and an end to loneliness? Or does it have to be an absolute?  We have to absolutely be in love, in lust, dazzled, bewitched and instantly gratified! Usually this state of euphoria wears off pretty quickly, it’s like a fix, you become addicted.  Love is fast becoming…“ well just that fast”

The ancient Greeks and the Christians believed that love was not a birthright. To have love one had to cultivate the quality of one’s soul to become worthy of love. Christians believed that you needed the virtues of  prudence, fortitude , temperance, justice, faith, hope and charity.  The essence of that lists gives us the impression of a love cultivated over time. A psychological commitment rather than just physical attraction.. More of a slow burn……

A modern list of virtues might include, respect, loyalty, patience, honesty, integrity and willingness to be honest about ourselves, all of the above and a measure of emotional maturity, is a pre-requisite for a successful relationship isn’t it?
